In fact, that is the EXACT point of complementary colors!! Complementary colors are exactly opposite each other on the color wheel. When used together, complementary colors are meant to draw attention and catch the eye, because they stand out and vibrate and generate a point of interest! In fact, this is part of color theory imparted for Graphic Design in University.
It should be noted that they are called complEmentary with an E, rather than complimentary with an I. Note that complimentary means flattering (in which case, of course they aren’t flattering when used together, they are supposed to be attention-catchers!), as opposed to complementary, which means”combining in such a way as to enhance or emphasize the qualities of each other or another.” And thus their being called complementary absolutely makes sense, doesn’t it?
